Refugee and migrant networks

The organisations listed below provide links to some refugee and migrant communities. However, not all refugee or migrant communities are part of formal organisational structures.

To find a community association or group from a specific ethnicity or nationality, the most comprehensive source of information is the Office of Ethnic Affairs community directory.


Auckland Refugee Community Coalition

This Coalition advocates for refugee community voices and promotes sustainable integrated refugee resettlement programmes.

Auckland Regional Migrant Services (ARMS)

This trust supports migrants and refugees to settle and integrate successfully in the Auckland region by offering a range of support and services, including free and low cost information workshops for newcomers.

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum (Wellington)

An agency supporting refugee communities to participate fully in society, help others work successfully with those from a refugee background, and advocate for concerns of refugees.

Christchurch Refugee and Migrant Centre

The Centre provides advice and referral for refugee and migrants. Referring clients to the right organisation, depending on their circumstances.

Marlborough Migrant Centre

The Centre supports newcomers to Marlborough, assists organisations and agencies with migrant matters and promotes Marlborough as a multi-cultural province.

Nelson Multicultural Council

The Council helps new settlers, wherever people have arrived from. As well as providing settlement support, advice and assistance for migrants, the Council promotes unity in diversity.

Newcomers Networks

Anyone recently arrived in New Zealand, regardless of age, nationality or language spoken, is welcome at newcomers network. These networks offer friendship and support through various activities. Networks are running in: Selwyn, Hawkes Bay, Nelson, Marlborough, Rotorua and Whakatane.



New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils

An umbrella organisation which advocates for, and supports and shares information among the regional ethnic councils and New Zealand's ethnic communities.
