Parenting support for teen fathers
In 2010 an initiative was launched to support the development and delivery of parenting support programmes specifically designed for teen fathers in nine high needs communities.
As part of this initiative a resource called Supporting Teen Fathers has been written for services providers. The resource shares the experiences of service providers and teen fathers as well as research findings about what works best when supporting teen fathers.
Teen mothers are commonly the focus of initiatives for teen parents and teen fathers are often overlooked. However teen fathers have a very important role to play in the upbringing of their children.
Research also shows teenage mother's parent better when they have strong social and emotional support from their child's father.
