Planning for an Influenza Pandemic

Community-based organisations providing social services need to prepare and respond to health and business risks created by an influenza pandemic.

Family and Community Services, in consultation with the NGO community and the Ministry of Health, has prepared a resource that provides organisations with practical information about how to respond to an influenza pandemic both individually and from an organisational perspective.

Many organisations already have comprehensive plans developed for their organisation. This resource is not intended to replace those existing plans, but support those who do not have one, bringing advice together about the best ways to access information about how you and your organisation can cope with the pandemic.

For more information:

The Ministry of Health website is the primary source of information on the current influenza pandemic. It includes links to questions and answers about the influenza virus, steps you can take to protect your health, travel advice, media updates, preparedness brochures and posters.

Other valuable sources of information include:

The Department of Labour home page links to a pandemic planning section which includes a practical guide for employers to minimise the risk and impact of an influenza pandemic on your business.

The Ministry of Economic Developement home page links to an influenza pandemic planning section, which includes a Business Continuity Planning Guide that provides general information related to pandemic planning.

Work and Income provides information about a range of financial assistance for you and your family if you have been affected by a pandemic.
