Local Services Mapping: Papakura
Papakura District sits south of Manukau City. It consists of a mix of urban and rural communities. Although more than a fifth of Papakura residents live in affluent areas, overall the district is more socially deprived when compared to the rest of New Zealand. The district also has a higher proportion of Māori and of young people under the age of 29 than the national average.
This report is a collaborative effort. It brought together the Department of Internal Affairs’ Sustainable Communities, the Papakura District and Auckland Regional Councils’ Long Term Council Community Plans, and the LSM process. Sources of information for the report included interviews with Māori, as well as community groups and agencies, and a survey for young people.
Key participants in the LSM process included:
- Auckland Regional Council
- Community groups and providers
- Department of Internal Affairs – Sustainable Communities
- Papakura District Council.
- Papakura youth
Priority areas identified by the report:
- Young people
- Employment
