Budget Special - May 2011
On Thursday 19 May, the Government released its 2011 Budget detailing how it will allocate spending over the next financial year and longer.
Spending on social services currently stands at just under $22 billion and this will be broadly maintained over the next financial year. Despite the downstream effects of the global financial crisis and ongoing costs associated with the Canterbury earthquakes, funding levels for non-government contracted social services of more than $300 million will be maintained although some of that money has been re-prioritised.
