SKIP takes positive parenting online
A website that provides information and inspiration for those who work alongside parents was launched in late April by the SKIP team from Family and Community Services.
The website, www.skip.org.nz offers useful advice, ideas about how to run successful SKIP events and free resources that parents can use, especially in its Strategies for Parents section.
Annalise Myers from the Auckland Women’s Centre was one of the first to comment on the new website. “I really love it; the information, the pictures, positive language – it feels inspiring,” she said.
“I think it paints a full picture of what SKIP is, showing that SKIP is much more than free resources and funding, it’s also a community response that supports positive parenting in our communities.”
Joan Hay from the Parents Centre was equally positive. “I have just visited and found it very easy to navigate. Well done on a wonderful resource. I must say it is great to be able to download the resources so easily.”
According to SKIP team manager Lorraine Tarrant, the aim of the site is to give community what they want.
“The feedback we got from our national partners and community organisations about the type of online tool or website they would find useful greatly influenced the focus of the site.
“They said they wanted information on how to run successful events, they wanted access to resources in other languages and they wanted the ability to connect with other like-minded people.
“Our role is to support and work alongside our national partners and local initiative fund recipients so that those communities can determine what works best for them.
“Parents parent better when they feel confident and feel supported by their communities,” she says.
