SKIP and The Warehouse Join Forces Again on Father’s Day
SKIP and The Warehouse joined forces for Fathers Day again this year to promote positive parenting and celebrate dads.
Last year the SKIP team worked with more than 50 dads employed at The Warehouse North Island Distribution Centre (NIDC) in South Auckland to develop a resource for dads based on real-life stories, ideas and photos. The booklets were launched in Warehouse stores last Fathers Day.
The project was so well-received the Warehouse asked to again promote and distribute 20,000 booklets through stores for Fathers Day 2009.
Stuart Dunn, National manager – Operations Support at the Warehouse NIDC was pleased with the project: "It has been a pleasure to be involved with this initiative. The DC dads found the discussions very useful".
SKIP was also asked back to the NIDC to run follow up parenting sessions with all the dads on-site. SKIP educators Vicky Ellison and Alfred Ngaro ran workshops and asked the dads to think about their own parenting styles.
"We got the guys to think about where most of their influence and support comes from. These discussions showed how our own families and personal experiences influence how we parent," says Vicky.
The Warehouse mums haven’t been left out. SKIP also ran a parenting workshop with over 150 mums in the NIDC and Apparel Distribution Centre and the mums stories, ideas and posters are part of a new booklet which will be promoted throughout the Warehouse later this year and for Mothers Day 2010.
