Heartlands Expo Popular in Te Anau

The second Te Anau Heartlands Community Familiarisation Expo was held at the Te Anau Community Events Centre on 8 September 2009.  The Expo built on the one held earlier this year which was well received by the community.

Marilyn Redfern, Heartlands Te Anau Coordinator said the day was a real success with 22 government and community organisations attending.

"We had stalls representing Work and Income, Department of Internal Affairs, Child, Youth and Family, ACC, Department of Conservation and many others.

"The local community was able to met with these people face to face and see for themselves what they could access through the Heartlands Centre," she said.

Marilyn said the awareness level for the community has definitely been raised.

"They now know what services are available in their community and how they can access them," she said.

The Expo is seen as an event that benefits the local community and is set to continue as a regular event.

Marilyn said that Te Anau has a high number of new immigrant workers from many parts of the world and the Expo is a good way to provide them with information about what services and support are available to those who live in the area.

There are 35 Heartland Services Centres throughout New Zealand.
