Twenty Five Years of Community Service in Otautau

The Otautau Districts Community Charitable Trust celebrated twenty-five years of service to the people of the Otautau on June 2009. Past and present members of the Trust were there to show their support.

The Trust was initially formed to help residents affected by the devastating floods of January 1984 and 1987 which affected much of the Eastern Southland town. Then, in the 1990s, the Trust provided support to help solve the problems caused by the rural downturn and the issues stemming from it. These ranged from depopulation in the area, to changes in farming practices, and social issues relating to young people, families, and the elderly.

The Trust has employed four community workers over the last 25 years. Their current office is the Southland District Council Office in Otautau.
