Overview of funding at Family and Community Services

Family and Community Services funds community-based organisations to deliver services for families, children, young and older people.    

We fund the following types of services that provide:

  • support for families at vulnerable times
  • early intervention and prevention
  • family violence prevention
  • interventions for youth
  • information and advice
  • a change in attitudes and behaviours
  • social cohesion and participation

The principles that underpin our approach to funding and contracting include: 

  • trust
  • accountability
  • openness and transparency
  • value for money
  • fairness and integrity

 We also:    

  • comply with the Public Finance Act 1989
  • only fund activities that comply with Ministry priorities
  • comply with all other relevant legislation (Treasury, Office of the Auditor General) when contracting for services and where appropriate obligations under the Children, Young Persons and their Families Act (1989)
