Who Can Apply for a Family Start Study Award?
Only Family Start employees can apply for the Family Start Study Award. Before applying read through the criteria below to help you to determine whether or not you would be eligible for an award. If you have any questions or doubts about your eligibility talk to your Family Start manager before you apply or contact:

Selection Criteria
To be considered for a Study Award you must be able to demonstrate that you can meet the following criteria.
The Family Start Study Award applicant:
- Is employed by a Family Start Service contracted by the Ministry of Social Development
- Is a current Family Start employee
- Is a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Is applying for a Family Start Study Award at diploma level 6 or higher in Social Work, Health or Early Childhood Education.
- Does not already hold a recognised qualification at diploma level or higher in Social Work, Health, or Early Childhood Education
- Has enrolled or is intending to enrol in a course of study that is approved through NZQA or the Institutes of Technology & Polytechnics Quality Committee or the Colleges of Education Accreditation Committee or the Committee on University Academic Programmes
- Has the support of the Family Start provider to proceed with study
- Does not have any significant debts outstanding with the Ministry of Social Development.
- Discloses any previous criminal convictions during the application process and can successfully complete a current police vetting process which meets the service specification criteria of the Family Start contract (i.e. does not have “a criminal conviction for sexual crimes, crimes of violence against a person, or crimes of dishonesty such as fraud”)
