Community Action Fund

Are you ok?

The Community Action Fund aims to support innovative ideas and actions being developed at a community level to prevent family violence.

Its focus is on changing the attitudes and behaviours that ignore, excuse, minimise or trivialise the effects of family violence.

The purpose of the Community Action Fund is to:

  • ensure the objectives and messages of the national campaign are echoed, made relevant and acted on in local communities;
  • build community ownership and commitment to the prevention of family violence and support local change; and,
  • encourage community organisations to work collaboratively to prevent family violence.

The Community Action Fund has been designed to build on the experience and expertise that already exists within communities about preventing family violence and encouraging healthy ways of relating.

The Community Action Fund gives priority to initiatives that are collaborative, have support from across the community, have a well-thought-out plan to effect change in the community.

Key messages are:

  • Family violence is preventable – attitudes and behaviours can change
  • Preventing family violence is a public issue – it’s everyone’s business
  • Community action changes the way we think about family violence.

The fund is targeted at small scale community initiatives. The maximum grant available is $30,000 (excl GST).
