Local Services Mapping: Queenstown Lakes
Queenstown Lakes District is experiencing sustained rapid population growth, and has a relatively youthful adult population. A shortage of affordable housing in the district affects tenants and prospective home owners. Local social service providers highlight the demand for affordable housing as the single most important issue facing local families.
Family and Community Services and the Queenstown Lakes District Council worked collaboratively to compile this report. They established two working parties to develop the project, one based in Queenstown and one in Wanaka. The groups’ members comprised representatives from central and local government, iwi, and members of the communities.
Key participants in the LSM process included:
- Ngai Tahu
- Queenstown Lakes District Council
- Te Huatanga O Wakatipu Whanau
- Wanaka and Queenstown Working Groups.
Priority areas for action in Queenstown Lakes:
- Shortage of affordable housing
- Sustainable growth
- Mental health services
- Childcare and early childhood education services.
