Local Services Mapping: Marlborough

Marlborough District is located in the northeast corner of the South Island. It is a diverse geographic region, from the region’s highest peak (Mount Tapuae-o-Uenuke), to flat plains, to the deep water of Marlborough Sounds.

Information for this report was gathered from a range of sources, including a service provider questionnaire, semi-structured interviews with community organisations, discussions with service providers and funders, national and local research, and an analysis of relevant social and economic statistics.

The report identifies the following priority areas for action for service providers in the district:

  • Families are resilient and children are safe.
  • Families live in affordable and appropriate housing.
  • Families can access the services they need.
  • Families can achieve economic sufficiency.
  • Volunteers in social services continue to be supported (this was not addressed specifically in the report, but will be reviewed and addressed at the community response planning stage).
