Local Services Mapping: Kaikoura
Kaikoura District is somewhat geographically isolated and has many of the characteristics associated with remote, rural communities. However, because it is a major tourism destination and is situated on State Highway 1, it has to cater for a significant number of visitors. Due to its location, decisions made at national level often have a direct impact upon the town.
The report drew on four reference groups (listed below) who will continue to participate until the project plan is implemented. The information gathered from the community was wide-ranging and highlighted a number of key issues for the district.

- Kaikoura Strengthening Families Local Management Group
- Ngai Tahu.

- Housing
- Income
- Gambling
- Health service provision
- Sustainable development.
