Local Services Mapping
Local Services Mapping (LSM) is a community-driven planning process that helps communities identify and address the social services needs of families. At its essence, LSM is an example of communities helping themselves - it is a cost-effective process that brings about real progress for communities.
With a strong focus on community outcomes, LSM has become a vehicle for building viable partnerships among key stakeholders - social service providers and funders across the NGO sector, iwi/Māori, and local and central government.
LSM helps move funding and development from talk to action, so that it makes a measurable difference for families and communities.
LSM is a collaborative process, one that is ‘owned’ by local communities and facilitated by the Ministry of Social Development’s Family and Community Services. LSM is carried out in partnership with local government, with an expectation that it will feed into the social wellbeing component of local councils’ Long Term Council Community Plans (LTCCPs).
The LSM process helps community stakeholders to identify and agree on priority areas for action, and to develop action plans to achieve desired outcomes.
