Local Services Mapping: Hutt Valley
The Hutt Valley LSM process represents a significant step toward improving the lives of families/whānau throughout the valley.
The Hutt Valley community report, which includes a detailed action plan, reflects a joint effort by government and non government agencies, iwi and community groups over the past two years.
The Hutt Valley LSM process is based on a core proposition: Strong families can help themselves; connected communities can help build strong families.
Reflecting this core proposition, the LSM participants identified two key results for the Hutt Valley:
- Children and young people are safe and healthy in Upper Hutt and Stokes Valley.
- People with disabilities and their families/whānau carer have an ordinary life.
The report’s action plan sets out specific actions to address the two priorities. These actions include:
- Partner agencies working together to increase the uptake of carer relief for family/whanau caregivers of people with disabilities.
- Establishing a networking forum for the disability sector to improve information and professional relationships and connectedness between disability services.
- Closing the information gaps between parenting services in Upper Hutt and Stokes Valley through a variety of means, such as online calendars of available services, regular community updates and celebrating success.
- Improving the connection and integration of prisoner reintegration services for offenders released into the Hutt Valley, and their families/whanau.
