Local Services Mapping: Hauraki

Although Hauraki District consists largely of farmland, most of its population lives in three main towns. Each of the district’s three wards (Plains, Paeroa and Waihi) have unique needs and close links to towns outside district boundaries.

Sources of information for this report included data from interviews, questionnaires to social service providers, and workshops with government and non-government agencies and social services providers. The LSM process contributed to the Better Futures Hauraki project – a collaborative approach to creating better outcomes for Hauraki children and young people.

Key participants in the LSM process and the Better Futures Hauraki Project included:

  • CAPS Hauraki
  • Child, Youth and Family
  • Hauraki District Council
  • Hauraki Maori Trust Board – Iwi Social Services
  • Hauraki Strengthening Families Local Management Group
  • Ministry of Education
  • Te Puni Kokiri
  • Waihi Community Resource Centre
  • Waikato District Health Board.

Priority areas for action in Hauraki:

  • Providing nurturing and safe home environments for all Hauraki children
  • Encouraging positive engagement with education, work, and the community for all Hauraki young people.
