Local Services Mapping: Hamilton

Hamilton City is New Zealand’s largest inland city, and fourth largest urban area. The Waikato River, which is the country’s longest river, flows for 16km through the city.

In 2006, the city produced the Hamilton Social Wellbeing Strategy, which covers the same ground as Local Services Mapping. As such, it serves as both a stand-alone document and as a LSM community report.

This strategy sets out the key social priorities for the community, and how the community will respond to the challenges and opportunities of the city.

The identified priorities for action are:

  • city leadership/collaboration
  • community capacity and pride
  • vibrant young people
  • quality of life
  • community safety.
