Travel safety
Going on holiday is an exciting adventure, but the break in routine and change of environment can mean your child’s behaviour changes. Some basic safety tips can help you to worry less and enjoy your holiday more:
- Find out as much as you can about your destination, and choose somewhere you feel comfortable taking your kids.
- Follow all air safety instructions – this is a great time to model good behaviour for your kids.
- Talk to your kids about what they will need to do in the airport/train station before you get there.
- Make two copies of any important documents – passports, insurance documents.
- Carry a first aid kit with you. The Get Thru website has a list of what to keep in your first aid kit. Take any common medication the family needs.
- Watch small children very closely during stops. You may be near busy roads or in an airport.
- Make sure your kids know the safety rules.
- Think about taking out insurance for your trip,
- Keep your kids entertained while travelling will help to keep them occupied and reduce the chance of them wandering off.
- Always buckle you seatbelt – on a plane and in the car.
