Reference group roles and responsibilities

Planning and implementing action plans

The Reference Groups for each of the focus areas provide a forum for its members to plan and implement actions that will contribute to their own population results/outcomes, which link directly with the overarching result of A Safe Whanganui.

The Reference Groups:

  • have a contact person to be the key link with the Steering Group, other Reference Groups, the Safer Whanganui Co-ordinator and its own members
  • meet regularly, using existing meeting frameworks wherever possible
  • report on progress against the indicator(s) to the Safer Whanganui Steering Group according to agreed format
  • develop good awareness of crossover of activities or interests with other Reference Groups
  • have or will develop ‘statements of alignment’ to ensure that the goals of individual agencies and networks interconnect with that of A Safe Whanganui – see separate page our common priorities
  • have a willingness to share, collaborate and communicate.

Completing Result Cards and reporting to Steering Group

Each Reference Group has a Result Card on which to record their work including each group’s desired results / outcomes and priority measurable indicators which have a link back to the project overarching result of A Safe Whanganui. The Result Cards will be updated annually (at minimum) so progress towards achieving the desired results is tracked for all to see. The Reference Groups will also report progress to the Steering Group annually. Result Cards generally follow the same format:

  • What we want to achieve (result / outcome)
  • Our target population
  • How we will measure success (indicator)
  • What the data tell us
  • The story behind the data
  • Our partners
  • What steps we are taking (actions including data development)
  • Our performance measures (evaluating our work)

Go to the individual Result Cards for more details. There is one for each of the focus areas: Education, Road Safety, Family Violence, Safety and Wellbeing, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Emergency, Planning, and Justice.
