The emphasis for social service organisations is to demonstrate progress they're making toward achieving outcomes for their clients.

Statistics

Population, ethnicity, family type and age statistics are presented to provide a snapshot of the demographics in each local government area. The information presented is from the 2006 Census results. In addition to the data listed, Statistics New Zealand also provides Census results about dwellings, gender, marital status, education, work, income, households, telecommunications, transport and housing.

QuickStats, Statistics New Zealand

QuickStats is a Statistics New Zealand service that provides brief overviews of New Zealand's communities, with lists of facts, simple tables and graphs. These are based on 2006 Census data. QuickStats can be viewed about places or about a subject. Subjects include population, age and sex, cultural diversity, work, income, families, households telecommunications and transport.

Atlas of Socioeconomic Deprivation 2006

The Atlas of Socioeconomic Deprivation 2006 was created by the Ministry of Health and University of Otago to map relative levels of socio-economic deprivation throughout New Zealand. Data for the atlas comes from Statistics New Zealand Index of Deprivation.

The online version of the Atlas is presented by district health board areas, as it is designed to assist people working in the funding and planning of healthcare delivery. The full dataset is available on CD or as a printed version with supplementary maps.

It is important to read the detailed background information provided before interpreting the maps.

Social Report Regional Indicators

In 2008, the Ministry of Social Development published regional indicators Social report regional indicators alongside its main Social Report. Data shows how outcomes vary across the country. Indicators cover the following areas: health, knowledge and skills, paid work, economic standard of living, civil and political rights, cultural identity, physical environment, leisure and recreation, safety and social connectedness.

Local services mapping (LSM)

Local services mapping is a planning process, facilitated by Family and Community Services, that involves local social service providers and funders across the NGO sector, iwi and local and central government as they work together to identify solutions that will better connect families to the services they need.

Community profiles

Read data and reports of 73 territorial authorities (including the Chatham Island's council) in New Zealand to help you plan and deliver social services.

Community outcomes (LTCCP) 

The Department of Internal Affairs maintain the Community Outcomes website, which provides a summary of outcomes listed in all long-term community council plans (LTCCP) and links to relevant documents. 

Councils are required to approve a new LTCCP every three years. Plans for 2006-2016 expired in July 2009. LTCCPs covering the 2009-2019 took force in mid-2009.
